I have always been fascinated by Macro photography. I remeber buying the first digital camera that could make macro pictures from 1 cm distance. I loved that Nikon camera. Now i only have a Sigma mini wide 2 Macro lens. But i use a lot more tools to get great macro shots. Here are some examples to make macro photos with not very expensive gear.
(update) I now have a Tamron 90mm 1:1 magnification lens and you can check a lot of 'making of 'macro pictures in my blog.
Extension Tubes
Black & Yellow
Here you see a piece of fabrik/cloth.
I made this picture with a Meyer-Optik Görlitz Domiplan 2.8/ 50mm (i bought for 25 euro's) on extension tubes (i bought for 4 euro's) on my Nikon D5200. Its a cheap way to get really close.
I used the Domiplan beacause of the beautifull soapy/ bubble bokeh. I used natural sun light on the shiny parts to get that golden bokeh in this shot.
Extension Tubes
Dead man's hand
Here i also used my Meyer-Optik Görlitz Domiplan 2.8/ 50mm with extension tubes.
I used a lamp to get the light on the pokerchips to create bokeh. I used the Domiplan for the soapy bokeh to get that great effect.
Raynox 250
Springs of Clothspins
I made this picture with a Helios 44m 58/2 58mm (i bought for 40 euro's) And used a Raynox 250 (i bought for 40 euro's) On my Nikon D5200. With the Raynox 250 you can get a super close up.
I used a Helios, because it is realy sharp on the spot you focus on and because of the f2.0 you can get great depth of field.
Raynox 250
The eye of the tiger
I also made this picture with a Raynox 250 on a Helios. You can use the raynox on all kind of lenses, but i like the focal distance of 80 or 90mm for macro. The Helios is 58mm, but on My D5200 it wil be 87mm. And i think the Helios is also razor sharp, so it's perfect for macro photography.
Reversal ring
I Want to break free
Or is it a kind of magic. It's a dandelion seed in the air.
I made this picture with a Pentacon 1.8 50MM, i bought for 10 euro's and a reversal ring for 2 euro's . 50MM is a nice reversal distance, but you can also use the 18-55mm kit lens.
Reversal ring
Bokehfly
I also made this picture of a butterfly with my Pentacon 1.8 50mm and a reversal ring.
The reversal ring makes it very difficult to focus, you have a really smal depth of field and then you can only focus on just a smal part as you can see here. But it can give nice effects and diffrent pictures then you have aready seen thousands of.

Eggs hatching
I used a Sigma mini wide II 2.8 28mm (i bought for 25 euro's) on my Nikon D5200. I can just use this lens as a macro, without using any extension tubes of reversal rings. This lens is great for macro photography, it's very sharp and has a great depth of field.

It's a peeling curl
I also made this macro with the cheap vintage Sigma Macro lens. I like the Sigma Mini Wide II lens a lot. It's very sharp and has great bokeh.
There are a lot of old vintage Macro lenses you can buy. It's good quality for little money. The vintage lenses are strong build.
Here are some more picures i made with the vintage lenses described above.
